About Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Surgery

If you are worried about your loose, drooping skin or lack of stomach muscle tone or strength in your abdominal region, you can go for a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia. Pre-operative patients are marked to guarantee the post-surgical scar is as inconspicuous as possible. If liposuction is required, it will be performed first. Then the actual abdominoplasty procedure is done where the extra skin and fat is removed according to your requirement. When appropriate, muscular retightening is accomplished.

The lower skin that has not been excised will remain, and it will be pushed inferiorly to confer closure. The scar is closed with absorbable sutures and staples. A soft dressing made of cotton is applied on the wound, and all patients are given elasticated compression garments.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and usually spans between 2 to 3 hours. Typically, there are three main types of Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) surgery.

Mini Abdominoplasty: A mini-abdominoplasty, also known as a mini-tummy tuck, is a minimally invasive cosmetic surgery procedure that eliminates loose skin and fatty tissue from the lower stomach area generally known as the navel. Patients may enhance their contours and laxity in the lower abdomen by removing extra skin and fatty tissue from this location. The abdominal muscles are normally left untouched.

Traditional Abdominoplasty: Owing to pregnancy, weight changes or bodily shock, the abdominal muscles might lose their natural compact form and become slack or separated. The abdominal muscles can be restored with a traditional abdominoplasty and extra skin and tissue may be removed from the stomach. After the abdominal skin is tacked across the repaired abdomen, the belly button is typically relocated. A traditional abdominoplasty that includes liposuction and/or a panniculectomy can provide better outcomes.

Extended Abdominoplasty: For individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight as a result of bariatric surgery, the extended tummy tuck is appropriate. Excess skin and tissue is removed from not just the stomach, but also the hips, thighs, and back in an extended abdominoplasty. Muscles in the back, flanks and abdomen can be restored and toned.

During your first appointment at our clinic, Mr Ammar Allouni will clarify all your questions regarding the procedure. He will recommend surgery only if it is the best option for you. You will also be encouraged to clarify any doubts regarding the recovery period, post-surgical care and the expected outcomes.

He will take your detailed medical history and conduct relevant clinical assessments, which might be followed by a 3D projection of the expected result – if surgery is indicated in your case. Additionally, he will inform you of the potential risks and complications of the surgery.

Some of your medications might require adjustments prior to the surgery or additional drugs may be prescribed. You will be asked to discontinue drugs like aspirin and herbal medications (if any) for a few days before and after the procedure.

Mr Ammar Allouni will also inform you about certain precautions to be taken before and after surgery. He will instruct you to quit smoking and to avoid consuming alcohol and recreational drugs for a few days before and after the surgery.

  • Pre-Surgical Care: After your full body assessment and before your surgery day you get the list of precautionary measures – what all you should avoid and what all you should do for the best results.

  • Day of Surgery: Mr Allouni follows the BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) guidelines for all cosmetic procedures. On the day of surgery, your health status will be reassessed thoroughly and a qualified nurse will prepare you for the procedure. Mr Ammar Allouni and his team will ensure your well-being and comfort throughout the procedure.

  • Post-Surgical Care: Mr Allouni and his team will be at your side while you are recovering. Once you are ready to go home you will be receiving a proper guideline of dos and don’ts that you need to follow and instructions on how often you need to be in touch with your surgeon to share your recovery status.

  • Follow up Stage – FREE: You will be provided with a schedule about your follow up appointments. All your follow-ups with your surgeon will be completely free.

  • Personalised Care: Once you have gone through your surgery, you can always directly contact with Mr Ammar Allouni and his team in case you face any issue or concern in future.

Recovery time for abdominoplasty is determined on the type and technique of your operation. The discomfort after surgery is modest and may be counteracted by simple over-the-counter pain relievers if necessary. It is a good idea to have a friend or family member stay with you for the first day or two of your abdominoplasty recovery period at home. You can expect to get back to work within 2 weeks post the surgery.

Body contouring procedures may help you look and feel better for a long time. If you become overweight, the shape of the anterior abdominal wall can revert to that prior to surgery. So, you should maintain the results by following healthy diet and exercise.

The potential risks of Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) surgery include temporary swelling, bruising and deep venous thromboembolism (DVT). As with any surgery, other less likely risks can include bleeding, seroma and blood clotting.

Mr Ammar Allouni has a high level of expertise and maintains exceptional standards in aesthetic and cosmetic surgery. You may feel more at ease with the kind of knowledge and the surgery mettle that he possesses.
