About Scar Revision Surgery

Scar Revision surgery improves the appearance of scars and increases self-confidence if you are embarrassed by your scars.

This is a surgical procedure that entails excising the scar. The wound edges are meticulously stitched together with tiny sutures, which encourage better scar development. Surgical excision is frequently employed in conjunction with other forms of non-surgical scar treatment to get the greatest result possible.

Scar Revision surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and usually spans between 0.5 to 1 hour. Typically, there are five main types of Scar revision treatments.

Injectable treatments: Fillers, steroids and fat transfer are some of the non-permanent cosmetic treatments. Fillers are used to repair depressions in scars that are beneath the normal skin level (the pits). This is a very simple and quick process, but the effects are not permanent. Fat transfer is the transfer of fat from other parts of the body and they are used as filler in the defect, although the outcomes tend to last longer.

Exfoliative techniques: Chemical peels, laser therapy and dermabrasion are just a few of the procedures that may be used to repair scars. Laser resurfacing is a type of laser treatment that destroys the outermost layer of scar tissue by using high-energy light. This helps to fade the scar into the surrounding skin and can rejuvenate it.

Surgical scar excision: Z-plasty and W-plasty are surgical procedures utilised to completely remove the previous scar. A new scar will develop naturally, but it is smaller, less visible and blends in with surrounding tissue. The treatment is generally done under local anaesthetic around the scar to ensure there is no discomfort.

Skin grafting: If the scar is huge, it might be decided to restore the damage after removing it with a skin flap. A flap is a thick slice of tissue taken from another part of the body (usually one that is hidden under your clothes) and transplanted to the old scar site.

Tissue expansion: A balloon is implanted under the skin near the scar, and it is gradually inflated to raise the overlying skin. The scar is removed and covered with additional skin when enough tissue has developed.

During your first appointment at our clinic, Mr. Ammar Allouni will clarify all your questions regarding the procedure. He will recommend surgery only if it is the best option for you. You will also be encouraged to clarify any doubts regarding the recovery period, post-surgical care and the expected outcomes.

He will take your detailed medical history and conduct relevant clinical assessments, which might be followed by a 3D projection of the expected result – if surgery is indicated in your case. Additionally, he will inform you of the potential risks and complications of the surgery.

Some of your medications might require adjustments prior to the surgery or additional drugs may be prescribed. You will be asked to discontinue drugs like aspirin and herbal medications (if any) for a few days before and after the procedure.

Mr Ammar Allouni will also inform you about certain precautions to be taken before and after surgery. He will instruct you to quit smoking and to avoid consuming alcohol and recreational drugs for a few days before and after the surgery.

  • Pre-Surgical Care: After your full body assessment and before your surgery day you get the list of precautionary measures – what all you should avoid and what all you should do for the best results.

  • Day of Surgery: Mr Allouni follows the BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons) guidelines for all cosmetic procedures. On the day of surgery, your health status will be reassessed thoroughly and a qualified nurse will prepare you for the procedure. Mr Ammar Allouni and his team will ensure your well-being and comfort throughout the procedure.

  • Post-Surgical Care: Mr Allouni and his team will be at your side while you are recovering. Once you are ready to go home you will be receiving a proper guideline of dos and don’ts that you need to follow and instructions on how often you need to be in touch with your surgeon to share your recovery status.

  • Follow up Stage – FREE: You will be provided with a schedule about your follow up appointments. All your follow-ups with your surgeon will be completely free.

  • Personalised Care: Once you have gone through your surgery, you can always directly contact with Mr Ammar Allouni and his team in case you face any issue or concern in future.

After surgery, there is very little downtime. You will be able to resume work the same day or the next day. In order to achieve the best results, you need to follow the post surgery instructions diligently.

Although your scar revision surgery will provide you with long-term results, it may take months for the final outcomes to become evident and in some cases, it might take a year for the new scar to fully heal and fade. Potential risks of scar revision surgery include infection, bleeding and recurrence of scar.
